ADHD, Autism & Neurodivergence
-
Neurodivergent is a nonmedical term that describes people whose brains develop or work differently for some reason. This means the person has different strengths and struggles from people whose brains develop or work more typically. While some people who are neurodivergent have medical conditions, it also happens to people where a medical condition or diagnosis hasn’t been identified.

ADHD, Autism, C-/PTSD, and OCD are just a few of many neurotypes used to describe the many ways of learning, thinking, experiencing and behaving. Understanding your neurotype allows you to build a life comprised of systems, environments, relationships and ways of thinking and behaving that work for you and the life you want to live.
Unfortunately, stigmatization and improper support for neurodivergence continues to be prevalent. Negative criticism of being “too”- forgetful, ‘go-go-go’, distracted, sensitive, talkative, scattered, controlling, emotional, inconsistent, and/or messy can erode self-esteem, instill a sense of personal failing or drive for perfect, and lead to feeling disconnected or striving for unobtainable outcomes.
Additionally, many neurodivergent folks also experience complex medical conditions overlooked or undiscussed in standardized talk-therapy, missing important parts of a person’s experience hindering wellness.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic migraines, chronic Gastrointestinal (GI) issues, Endometriosis, Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), Fibromyalgia, and connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are among some of the many co-existing diagnoses my clientele have experience with.
I used my professional and personal experience unpacking my own neurodivergence and navigating the complex landscape of wellness as a neurodivergent person to create High Point Counseling PLLC, a place where clients striving to develop a personal wellness recipe can come to understand themselves and develop systems and skills that really work. I look forward to helping you create your wellness recipe.
